Hints and Tips
The Vetlexicon Search
Vetlexicon boasts a smart and intuitive search function that is specifically designed to enhance your user experience.
There are two ways to search the Vetlexicon library, a broad search of keywords or phrases that pulls results from all species and media types. Or, a more refined search by specific species that can be further filtered.
A broad lookup can be initiated from the search bar on the homepage, or by using the search page that can be accessed via the icon in the main menu.
To search by species, select your desired option from the sub-navigation at the top of the page. This will take you to the separate results display that hosts that species’ library.
TIP: These results can be filtered by media type, and sorted by relevance, recently added and A-Z. You can also directly search, using the bar on the left-hand side.
Client Factsheets
Client factsheets on Vetlexicon are concise summaries of specific diseases or topics intended to educate pet owners.
They provide information on common signs and symptoms, causes, diagnostic tests, treatment options, and prevention strategies related to specific conditions. The factsheets are designed to be easily understood by non-professionals, helping pet owners make informed decisions about their pets' health.
There are over 1,500 client factsheets across all seven species. Around 800 of those are in Canis and Felis, covering cats and dogs.
TIP: Print them to handout to clients, email them to other colleagues, bookmark them so they are saved in your account area, plus translate them into your desired language!
Diagnostic Trees
Diagnostic Trees act as a decision aid - perfect for an off-site consultation!
Assisting veterinary professionals by narrowing down the potential causes of a particular condition or symptom. They follow a step-by-step approach, asking a series of questions or providing a list of potential differentials based on the presenting signs and findings. By systematically eliminating or confirming possibilities, diagnostic trees help guide veterinarians towards an accurate diagnosis.
There are currently 78 diagnostic trees available on Canis, Felis, Lapis, Bovis and Avis.
TIP: Use the adjustment settings to zoom in and out of each branch, and use the colour-coded key that indicates ‘action required’, ‘diagnostic test’ and ‘results of test’.
Bookmarks
When browsing the Vetlexicon content, be sure to bookmark the items you will want to come back to at a later date!
You can easily retrieve and revisit important or interesting content without the need to remember specific URLs or search terms.
If you're in a specific article or other piece of content, you can bookmark via the icon at the top of the page. Or, if you're filtering through a search and find something you want to revisit, you can bookmark directly from the search results so you wont lose what you have found.
TIP: All bookmarks can be found in your 'My Account' area.
My Notes Tool
The My Notes tool enables clinical team members to record their own personal notes, as well as enable Reflective Learning.
Available across 5 different templates, the My Notes feature is available on all articles that are formatted as Disease, Drug, Technique, Bug, or Freeform.
The notes form is written in a question-and-answer format to help best support your reflective learning. The note fields cover clinical notes, as well as three specific questions that relate to your reflective learning.
Your notes can be saved and revisited at a later date for edits.
TIP: Use the unique case identifier field to collect any notes related to a live case you have seen in practice.
